Train

Travelling by rail can be a fast and convenient way to travel to work by all or part of your journey. Chester and Ellesmere Port are well served by the rail network with both high frequency services into Liverpool and longer distance regular services to London and Wales.

Chester Station is situated to the north east of the centre, just under a mile or approximately 15 minutes walk from the city centre.

The station is served by four train operating companies, with Arriva Trains Wales providing hourly services to Llandudno, Holyhead, Wrexham General and Shrewsbury, Manchester Piccadilly and Crewe. There is an hourly service to London Euston via Crewe and Milton Keynes Central operated by Virgin Trains*.

High frequency services to Liverpool are provided by Merseyrail with 4 trains per hour (every 15 minutes) to Liverpool Central via Birkenhead with late evening and Sunday 30 minute frequencies. Northern Rail operates 1 train per hour on the Mid-Cheshire Line to all stops to Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport via Northwich*. Visit the Mid Cheshire Rail website for more information.

Cycle Facilities

There are over 100 sheltered cycle storage facilities available within Chester Station adjacent to the Customer Services Office and behind Costa. Please check your individual Train Operators policy for taking bicycles on trains.

Onward Travel

A number of bus operators serve Chester Station providing interchange opportunities. There are regular bus rail link services into the City Centre. Passengers may benefit from PlusBus, a single fare and ticket for both rail and bus travel, see www.plusbus.info.  There is a taxi rank located immediately outside the Station entrance.

Bache Station is located on the Merseyrail Wirral Line and is a convenient stop for north Chester and the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Ellesmere Port Station is located within close proximity to the town centre. The Station is a terminus for both Merseyrail trains on the Wirral Line and Northern Rail services to Warrington Bank Quay.

Ellesmere Port railway station has a large free car park and there is a taxi office situated on site. Passengers may benefit from PlusBus, a single fare and ticket for both rail and bus travel, see www.plusbus.info
